Production of heavy two-seat interceptor MiG-31 began in 1979. After conducting the tests the first MiG-31 began to come into service of the USSR anti-aircraft defense in 1982. As for weapons system MiG-31 has no analogs in the world. It is capable to locate and destroy a targets within range up to 300 km, can accompany 10 targets and simultaneously destroy 6-8 of them. According to NATO classification the interceptor MiG-31 was assigned a code name 'Foxhound'. |
