In summer 1944, the Red Army has begun a massive offensive operation on the Karelian Isthmus. From the air it was supported by more than 1500 aircraft of the 13th Air army and Air forces of the Baltic fleet. Finland has been able to oppose against this offensive the limited quantity of fighters Bf 109 G-2 from HLeLv24 and Bf 109 G-6 from HLeLv34. Finnish pilots succeeded to gain about one hundred victories in air battles with the superior forces of the enemy.
